March Madness and Pizza

What do we do in this house when our beloved Kentucky Wildcats blow their chance to make it into the Big Dance, ending an eighteen year streak of Big Blue appearances in the NCAA tournament?

We make pizza, of course!!

Not only has Spring sprung here in Middle Tennessee (Thank you Jesus!), but March Madness is in full swing. If you are a huge college basketball fan like we are, this is one of your favorite times of the year. College basketball on most of the day, four days a week...

Ahhh...it is a fan's paradise.

I remember last year, Caleb was more than ready for the madness to be OVER, since for a few March days watching basketball trumped his PBS kids in the afternoon. Sorry Buddy. It is that time of year again!

Sadly, no blue hair will be doned in the Workman house over the next few weeks of NCAA basketball action. I will, however, be breaking out my Big Red WKU sweatshirt, as my team of choice this year will be my alma mater, Western Kentucky! Go Hilltoppers!! Hey, they made it to the Sweet Sixteen last year, so I am expecting even greater things this year. Even the Eagles of Morehead State University are gracing the tourney this year. And of course there is that other team from Kentucky, who not only got into the NCAA tournament, but got a whopping number one seed. Way to go, Pitino! (Sorry honey. But notice, I did not say, way to go, Louisville. Who can help but love their coach? After all, UofL is the UK of twelve years ago.)

As I mentioned above, to ease the sting of our basketball disappointment on Friday, the Workmans tried our hand at making homemade pizzas. With the help of some friends and their handy dandy pizza dough and sauce recipes, we drowned our sorrows in pepperonis, diced veggies, mozarella, and thick, yummy bread machine prepared crust. Oh, it was good. Caleb was my chef's helper, as he helped me do the prep work with the crust and pizza sauce. Then, the whole crew set out to "decorate" the pizzas, once I was able to maneuver the dough is circular-ish shaped crusts. Working with the dough was a bit more of a challenge than I had anticipated, but thanks to Kristin's rolling pin, I was able to get it all under control. For the most part.

Good bye store bought cardboard crust pizza nights! Hello Workman family homemade pizza night extravaganzas!
