Meet Our Centerpiece

Caleb made this little turkey fellow at his Thanksgiving party at school.  For once, I don't think Caleb gave his little friend a name, but he does a home.  Right smack dab in the center of our kitchen table.  We all happily looked around him at one each other as we ate our Thanksgiving dinner together.  And Mr. Turkey is still there now.  He doesn't really compliment our Christmas decor, but since he has been planted on our kitchen table for a week and a half now, he has sort of become family.  I think we will let him hang out with us for a while longer.

Caleb's class put on a cute Thanksgiving program, complete with Indian vests, war paint, head dresses, and Mrs. Amy introduced them to us by their new Indian names.  Caleb chose the name "Fast Swimmer."  It was a fun party with food, crafts, and some really cool chocolate turkey cupcakes.  These moms are really outdoing themselves this year with the fun parties!  Two moms are responsible for each party and I have signed up for the Easter party with my friend, Christina.  Maybe by April, the class will be all partied out and ready for a little low key festivity.  Remember, party creativity is not my strong suit.  A simple no frills Easter egg hunt is its own entertainment.  Right? Maybe I can ride on Christina's creative coat tails.

Yummy Turkey Cupcakes

I was sharing my cupcake with this guy, but I think I only got a small bite of frosting.

Good thing he is cute. I don't usually share my food.

Yard Work

And just where were the little Workmans while we were living it up at the football game?

They were working in Miss Beth's yard, raking leaves.

Wait, did I say working???

I think it was more like jumping and playing in the leaves.  I am not sure how much actual work got accomplished, but they sure were happy boys when we went to pick them up.

Thanks Beth and Lily!!

C-A-T-S Cats, Cats, Cats!!!

It had been years since I had been to a college football game, and I had forgotten how much fun they are!!

Drew's birthday was Nov. 14th, which nicely coincided with the UK/Vanderbilt football game.  Memaw and Pepaw treated us, along with Drew and Ticia, to a game on the Commodores home turf to celebrate Drew turning a quarter of a century old.  However, with the sea of blue present, you would have thought we were at home in Commonwealth Stadium.  The Wildcats are never without a flock of fans, and we were happy to be among them that day.

I had to acclimate to watching live football action verses seeing it on television.  I realized that it takes more effort and concentration to be present and watching, since there are no cameras in real life to zoom in and follow the football all over the field (you have to do that yourself).  And those little lines that appear on the tv screen, but are not actually present on the football field, to denote the line of scrimmage and first down are really missed when you are attending the game.  Oh well. Adjustments were quickly made and I thoroughly enjoyed being amongst all of the energy and excitement that go along with college football.

I tried to get a picture of the final score, but my zoom isn't that great.  We won!!  And what a great game it was! Although Vanderbilt was ahead by three at the half, the Wildcats were able to hold the Commodores scoreless in the second half.  Kentucky scored touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters, going on to defeat Vanderbilt 24 to 13.  Woo Hoo! Goooooooooooooooooooo Cats!

No blue hair was worn by the Workmans at this game.  But it is basketball season now, so it won't be long before the blue hair is flying around!

Cowboys at the Zoo

A couple of weeks ago I had a playdate with JUST my boys.  It isn't very often that that happens.  Not the playdate thing...we are avid playdaters.  We are just blessed to have friends who love to play and go on outings with us, so usually we meet up with friends when we go to the zoo, park, or wherever the wind takes us that day.  Caleb totally gets that it isn't all about he and Sethie getting to play with friends, too.  Recently, when I told him we were going to have a playdate, he said, "I bet you are glad that you are going to get to talk to your friend while we play."  You got it buddy!  Playdates are not just for kiddos!

The boys and I had a great time at the zoo!  Although we have been there many times and Caleb could probably navigate his way through with his eyes closed, he was very excited to get his map at the gate and be our zoo guide for the day.  Our cowboy zoo guide.  Of course, Seth had map in hand, too. He was the assistant cowboy zoo guide.

The boys quickly determined their path and off we went.  The most anticipated destination for us was the porcupine habitat.  However, when we got there, our prickly friends were sleeping and no amount of Workman vocal prodding would get them to wake-up and walk around.  Believe me, we tried.  But the alligators, monkeys, meerkats, and all of the critters in the Unseen New World exhibit did not disappoint.  The jungle gym play area won out over visiting the bigger animals this time.  And despite being run out of our picnic area by honey bees...honey bees that totally took over the assitant cowboy zoo guide's apple sauce...we had such a fun day together.  Good, good times!

I can't wait to do it again!! When it gets warmer, of course.

Moments with Caleb

While driving in the car yesterday, Eric heard Caleb playing and talking away in the back of the van and decided to put his two cents into the conversation.  He quickly learned that it was a conversation for ONE, when Caleb responded, "Daddy, DON'T interrupt me when I am talking to myself."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eric: "Caleb, hurry up and put your pjs on."

Caleb: Struggling with his shirt halfway over his head. "I am trying dad, but my shirt is NOT cooperating with me!"  *Irritated growl*

Mom takes pity on a tangled up Caleb, who is obviously losing the battle, and steps in as a reinforcement and helps remove the "uncooperative" party.

This is What it is Like...

...to watch the Country Music Awards with Seth.

Seth, performing All Right, with Darius Rucker.
Might I add, Seth really rocked that one.

Playing alongside Brad Paisley in Welcome to the Future
He did have the cowboy hat on for the first part of the song.

A break between performances

Seth's final performance of the evening was The Devil Went Down to Georgia with the Zac Brown Band.
The photo on the right was during the dueling fiddles/guitar part.

Then he had to go to bed.

What a show!!  And I am referring to the one in our living room.

P.S. No goggles tonight.
