Unfortunately, Biz and Seth will miss their last soccer games this season, because they are make-up games that land on the same weekend as Deaf Camp. So, for the Workmans, soccer season has come to an end. That is always bittersweet for us. On the up side, we now have our Saturdays back. On the down side, we have to wait four months until we get to see the boys in soccer action again. Or at least in a team environment.
Caleb had a great season! It was really fun to watch his skills continue develop and to see his team develop into just that...a team. At this level, they are learning to play different positions, learning when to take the shot or pass it off to another player, and learning to anticipate the opponent's next move. The Fireballs really played well together and were a force to be reckoned with on the field!
Caleb's also determined that his least favorite position to play is playing back on defense. I definitely don't see him being a goalie in the future. It isn't that he doesn't like to defend the ball; He likes that very much. It is just when you play back, you can't GO AFTER the ball and the action; you have to WAIT for it all to cross the center line and come to you. That totally goes against Caleb's very nature.
Center forward is his favorite position. He says it is easier to score from there and it is the easiest position to figure out. Plus, it allows him to charge forward without any restraints. He also said he liked when the ball would get kicked out of the "tornado," come at him, and then he was able to take it in for the goal. (I will let him explain to you what all of that means.)
This season, Caleb also participated in the Future Stars weekly soccer clinic. He had a lot of fun with that, and it really sharpened some of his skills, especially his footwork. Sometimes practicing his fancy new footwork did get the best of him during an actual game. He quickly had to learn when and where to put his new found skills into practice and when to just stick to the basics.
Way to go, Biz! Great season!
And Seth, too!
(But I have already posted about his big season finale!)
