Coolest Birthday Cake EVER!!!

Caleb's love language is quality time. If you are around Caleb long enough, you will figure this out pretty quickly. I think Tante and Uncle Tim knew this before even Eric and I did. It is always evidenced in how they choose to gift him. Last year, they made a birthday bird house with him as a gift for his fourth birthday.  And this year, they built a Fort Cake out of Little Debbie snack cakes together. What a great idea!!! Caleb not only had fun building it and eating it while he built it, but he thought it was the coolest thing to show off his creation to his family and buddies.  What a fun and creative gift!!

I know this, Biz's birthday post, is about two weeks overdue, but the past two weeks of adjusting to our new fall school/soccer/work/bible study/family schedule has left little time for in-depth blogging or picture sorting.

But finally, a detailed account (more for the sake of family journaling than for blog's sake), of our brand new five-year-old's birthday fun!  Praise you, Jesus, for blessing us with Caleb and his energy, humor, and love.  What a wonderful five years it has been!!!

Caleb's birthday celebration was actually suppose to take place the week before his birthday in Pigeon Forge at Dollywood.  A day at the amusement park was our planned gift for Biz this year.  But...it rained the day we were planning to go.  A circumstance that daddy actually had a harder time accepting than Caleb.  So, we had to create a back up plan.  Something we didn't have...well, until it was necessary.

We decided to celebrate on Caleb's actual birthday.  Granny and Aunt B made it in on Friday night and after Biz went to bed, we blew up balloons and decorated the living room.  When Biz woke up, he was excited to see the gala in his honor right there in the living room.  We probably could have stopped right there with birthday festivities, and he would have been totally satisfied. But, of course, what 5th birthday would be complete without a birthday smoothie for breakfast???

Then on to a little birthday bowling!!! Did I mention it was a surprise? This was Caleb in the van on the way to our "surprise destination."

Caleb was so excited to FINALLY get to go bowling.  We pass the bowling alley on our way to Wal-Mart, which means we pass it often.  Almost every time we do, Caleb says without fail, "We should go there sometime."   Well here you go, buddy!  His enthusiasm lasted through about the first two frames and then once he realized that he would actually have to take turns bowling and not be able to constantly roll the ball down the lane (yeah, momma being a stickler for playing a game by its actual rules...even on your birthday), he was ready to move on to the Chuck E. Cheese-like playroom that was next to the mini-bowling room.  We were able to persuade him to finish his bowling before moving on to the room of overstimulation.

I think Seth had the biggest blast of all with bowling.  Big brother only beat him by one pin and both boys out bowled Aunt B.  (Sorry, Sister!)

Okay, not the best angle for a family picture, but it was the only one we captured.

That evening we went over to Tante and Uncle Tim's house for a little birthday cookout.  Caleb got to invite two friends (and their little brothers of course) and Mommy realized that six kids is the perfect birthday party number.  Especially when you have eight adults and you are not outnumbered.

It was a fun day that turned into a fun evening.  Not too bad for some impromptu birthday planning!

Happy Birthday Biz!!!!
