Caleb's Quilt

A labor of love...that's what this is.

Tante presented Caleb with his special "Tante made" quilt on his 8th birthday.

Tante put so much detail into Caleb's quilt, which includes patches that represent some of his favorite things...tennis, bicycles, UK, and pirate maps.  She also sewed one of his soccer jerseys into the quilt.  So much thoughtfulness and heart went into this quilt.  I know Caleb will always treasure it.

The most precious thing about the quilt is how Tante sewed the Word of God along the borders of the quilt.  Just as it is sewn into this special quilt, may God's Word be sewn into Caleb's heart more and more each day.

Philippians 1:9-11

"And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,  so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ."

Thank you, Tante!
We love you!

"The Pilgrims sailed across the Atlantic Ocean on a big ship called the Mayflower."

Yep, those were the lines Seth practiced over and over.

And he nailed it!

The Kindergarteners' Thanksgiving program was last night.  They presented the ABCs of Thanksgiving, and they did such a good job!  The teachers deserve major kudos, too, because with six classes of five and six years olds, it was no small task to pull it together.  But they did and it went so smoothly.  All of the kiddos knew their lines and songs, and the fact that the program was a short and sweet 30 minutes made even extra perfect.

Of course, we were extra proud of our Seth.  Not one to seek out the spot light, he said his lines with such a sweet confidence.

How in the world is this sweet face already nearly half way through kindergarten.  *sniffle*

Homework Helper

Biz had an extra special homework helper tonight!

Three generations of Workmans doing math together.
I love it!

Spirit Week

The second week of October was Spirit week at the boys' school.

Monday was favorite sports team day.  I forgot to get a picture that morning, which was probably because it looked like a pretty normal day around here, with our boys doned in UK gear.  There are probably at least 800 pictures of them in their UK best on this blog, so feel free to look around to get an idea of how they looked that day.

Seth opted to not participate in Wacky, Tacky day on Tuesday.  It was just not his thing.  It was a different story for big brother, who was all about some wacky, tackiness.

There is just something about wearing your pjs to school that is very exciting to our boys.  Wednesday was a favorite, for sure.

Thursday was school spirit/sunglasses day!  Yep, the school spirit and coolness was just oozing out of these dudes.

All of this led up to Moores' Miles on Friday.

Moores' Miles x 2

Aside from the drizzly, cold weather, Moores' Miles was a big ole success again this year. Moores' Miles is the boys' school's biggest fundraiser of the year and was held in mid-October.  The kiddos collect pledge money for laps they run/walk and there is also a silent auction, bake sale, and pep ralley.  Lots of hooplah!  And a lot of fun!

Oh, but did I mention how cold and yucky it was this year.  Thankfully, it was not cold and yucky enough to call for a reschedule.  Whew!  This year, I coordinated volunteers for Caleb's class, so I was more than happy to brave the chilly, only slight rainy conditions, in order to NOT have to move everything to the alternative rain date and reorganize volunteers.  Or better yet, try to figure out how to be in two places at once, since I was not available on the alternative date.

So, everything went off as scheduled.  Yay! There was just a 15 minute delay in run times, but that was a very minor issue that didn't seem to mess with anybody's day.  All went very well.

This year, we had two Workmans running for their school.  It was Seth's first Moore's Miles, so we were extra pumped about that.  Both boys were ready to go when it came their time to run.

Caleb's class ran in the morning.  Caleb was bound and determined to beat his lap count from last year.  And he did.  Caleb ran a whopping thirteen laps...3.25 miles.

On your marks...

Way to go, Biz!!

Seth's class ran in the afternoon, and he really wasn't concerned with breaking any records.  Quite honestly, I figured he would run a couple of laps and be done.  And I was right.  He started off very excited, ran like a champ, and was then ready to call it a day after a couple of laps.  However, the kiddos were suppose to run (or walk) for a full thirty minutes, so I had to encourage him to press on.  And he did.  With Momma right there with him.  We ran/walked most of the time together and at the end of the thirty minutes, Seth had eight laps under his belt...2 miles. (and Momma had six laps to her credit.)

Ready to run!

Way to go, Tepper!

Good run, Workmans boys!

We are still Here!

Wow! I really had to stretch my brain to remember my blogspot log in, since it has been so long since I have been on here.  I guess you could say that the fall has been quite eventful around here at the Workman home.   To those of you who I confided in this summer that I just wasn't sure what I would do with ALL of my extra time that I was sure to have now that both boys were going to be in school...well, that has certainly NOT been a problem.  Extra time...hmmm...I have yet to see any of it. The year of sleep that I promised I was going to have, has yet to commence.  But this transitional season has been going well, busy, but well and has been a lot of fun.  It has been filled with lots of new opportunities for the boys and us and lots of family time.

And yes, with little free time, hence our neglected blog.

So, here we are...see, we haven't changed much.  The boys have gotten taller.  Other than that, you will still recognize us.

I am hoping to play catch up and get all of our fall "adventures" chronicled on here, completely out of chronological order, of course. Not that everyone is hanging on the edge of their seats wondering what the Workmans have been up to, but for the sake of family journaling and rescuing our pictures from the dark abyss of never being seen again, if they do not appear of this blog.

I am just waiting for a big sea of time to open up, so I can do it.

But I will...eventually, doggone it!

Birthday Camp Out

What could be better than a birthday camp out in Tante and Uncle Tim's backyard?

A birthday camp out in Tante and Uncle Tim's backyard with one of your best buddies, and fellow adventurer, Elliott...that's what!

Oh, and BB guns to boot!

Yep, and 8-year-old boy's dream camp out, for sure!!

The boys started out by helping Uncle Tim set up the tent and getting camp prepared.
Then, it was time for the adventuring to begin.

The boys were very excited to shoot BB guns together.  Elliott was already an expert at BB gun shooting, but this was Caleb's first experience, so, Tante also gave them some rules to read through and then sign.

Then, Uncle Tim gave them some BB gun training before the actual shooting began.  After that, the boys were all set to go.

And go they did.
They had a blast shooting targets.

The campout also included a big hike,

Cooking dinner at the fire pit and Smores!!!

The night was topped off with reading books by flashlight in the tent.

The boys were up and at 'em early the next morning for breakfast and breaking down their camp.

Then, the boys got to end the campout by shooting holes in their cereal boxes,

and of course, they got to show off their shooting skills when we arrived to pick them up.  That led to a crash course training for Seth, who was very eager to get his chance to shoot.

Yep, camping with your buddy...

What a fun adventure!!!
