Annual Denton/Workman lake trip...in pictures

We LOVE these people and had a great trip to Land Between the Lakes with them at the end of the June.   This annual trip is a blessed family tradition that we start looking forward to again as soon as we return home each year from it.

One of our favorite places to eat on Kentucky Lake is Ralph's Harborview Grill at the Moor's Marina.

This year, they added a couple of extra touches to the ole place.

One of which was... a robot.   What?  

I am not really sure how that fits into the lake and pirate motif, but the boys really enjoyed it, especially when it came over and started talking to them.  A little weird, but interesting and entertaining.

As always, we ate good food there and had a good time relaxing after a day on the lake.

First Day of Second Grade...Success!!

Or at least I am counting it as that, since the first thing Caleb said when he got in the van this afternoon was how much he loved it!

He immediately clicked with his new teacher, Mrs. Wilkes.  She is really sweet and he says she reminds him of Mrs. Franklin from last year.   She also scored big Caleb points when we visited his new classroom on Tuesday evening, and he scouted out the book section in the class.  He told me that Mrs. Wilkes has a REALLY good selection. 

One of his really good buddies, Hunter, is in his class again this year, which made Caleb even more eager for today.  He was also very excited to meet up with his "gang" (no worries, this is the sweetest "gang" around) on the playground at recess.   Since some of his buddies are not in his class this year, they will at least all get to hang out at recess, since the entire grade recesses (is that a word?) together.  He was also ready to meet new friends.  The boy who sits across from him in class is new to the school, and Caleb knows all about being the new kid from last year.  He informed me that  they are now buddies, too. 

And as always, lunch was his favorite part of the day...but that was no big surprise.

We are ready for another great year!!!   Yay Second grade!

In two more weeks, we will have another first day to celebrate...(gulp)

Jeana Kate

Jeana was Caleb's age when she was the flower girl in our wedding.  My, how time does fly.   Fast forward ten quick years and now Jeana is a lovely seventeen year-old lady, about to enter into her senior year of high school.  How can it be possible?  Jeana has become a sweet, determined, and smart young lady. When she puts her mind to something, she resolves to do it. I admire that about her, especially at her age. She has a great sense of humor and is a lot of fun to be around. She doesn't shy away from a challenge and is always up for a new adventure.  She is kind and thoughtful, and as I stated above...truly lovely. I know that God has a special plan for Jeana to use these wonderful attributes for His glory.

With six hours between us, we don't get to spend nearly as much time with Jeana and her family as we would like, but we were so blessed to not only spend one week, but two weeks with Jeana again this summer.  Our annual Denton/Workman lake trip was at the end of June (I will eventually the pictures from that trip on here) and then Jeana came to stay with us for a week at the end of July. 

We had such a fun week together!  We had lots of pool time and I enjoyed having a new running partner for the week.  The boys really enjoyed having her here, too.  In a house that is always filled with boys, having another girl in the house for a change, was a breath of fresh air.  I was schooled on clothes shopping with a teenager and was quite impressed with Jeana's frugality and thoughtfulness in spending her money.  We zapped each other at Laser Tag, which was a blast, even though Caleb ran circles around all of us and got us everytime we turned around.  He just comes from out of nowhere and gets you!  I learned all about Hot Yoga, of which I was not a participant, but gladly took Jeana each day.  She even taught me a yummy new recipe and we had fun grocery shopping together.  It was just great hanging out, talking, and spending time together.

And few people have they been playing with longer than the Davis boys. 

What a special friendship our boys have.  And what better way to top off the summer than to have a day filled with them!  Yay!

With different school schedules and thirty minutes between us, getting together during the school year can be a bit tricky, but we continue to put forth the effort and make it work.  After all, there is nothing quite like a good buddy!

The boys played so hard, got so dirty, and had many adventures today...in their covered wagon.  Yes, the Davis' have been reading the Little House series, too.  Both Elliott and Caleb commented on how their wagon was like the one Almanzo must have had in Farmer Boy.

Backyard Hut

August is upon us and I don't have time for a lot of words, but I did want to post some recent photos. 

The boys are savoring every last moment before heading back to school this week.

 Today, the boys built a "beach hut" in the back yard. 

After this shot, Seth came in to get cups of water for everyone, saying that they were going to relax and pretend they were drinking out of coconuts.  I love it!
