A Few Good Reasons to Celebrate a Fabulous Mom!

There is nothing like being gone for a weekend and returning to a spotless house, laundry done, children thoroughly entertained, and dinner prepared in the crockpot, so that you don't have to cook later that evening.

Yep, Granny was here for the weekend!  How did you guess?

My mom is wonderful!  She always leaves my home ten times cleaner than she finds it and fully stocked with snacks for the boys and paper products when she leaves.  It is amazing!  She is amazing!  The boys know it, too.  They will tell you, "Granny is the most generous person I know."  We were putting some goodies away today that Granny brought and Seth looked up at me and said, "Granny is so unselfish."

We love my mom. And the boys love their Granny.  She is always engaging with them in some sort of activity, book, game, or movie.  We came home from our trip to an empty house and a note that read, "Boys and I have gone to play basketball."  Yep, Granny and her boys were over in the gym across the street shooting some hoops.  Something I never even think to do with them.  I love her for that.  And they do, too.

Eric and I are very proud of Mom.  She has definitely taught me that if you set your mind to something then you can achieve it.  Mom has always gone after things all or nothing.   A year or so ago, she finally got tired of having leg pain and set out to do something about it.  She would not settle for the doctor's diagnosis of Restless Leg Syndrome and the regimine of prescriptions that would surely accompany it.  She set out to determine the root cause of her pain and discovered a whole new lifestyle.  She began significantly cutting down her salt intake, which led to an overall healthier eating style.  She began receiving more regular chiropractic care (Yay chiropractic!).  Then she got moving!  She began working out at the gym and now keeps a pedometer on her daily to count her steps.  She has a goal for herself and almost always achieves it, especially when there is a UK game on and she is walking a hole in the floor.  I love it when we ask to do something for her and she says, "No, I will do it.  I need the steps."

I am so impressed with how she has stuck to her guns and taken off over fifty pounds!  I am not even sure what the total count is, but I know it is at least that much.  And she has shed the weight not for the reason many people strive for...the sake of looking good.  But she has done it so she could actually FEEL good and have energy to  live life.   She will tell you it has not been easy.  Changing from viewing eating as an extra curricular activity or means of comfort never is.  (She has even been known to eat peanut butter, raisin and SPINACH sandwiches.)  But it has been worth it and she has no plans to ever go back!  It has taken a steel will and ton of prayer, but she continues to keep on keeping on.  I am so proud of her and inspired by her!

We were so blessed to get to celebrate Mom's birthday with her this year.  We are usually apart for the occasion, but this year, she made it down so we could celebrate with her and Culver's birthday cake.  (Even the best eaters have to have a little frozen custard cake for a special occasion.)

We also took Mom to the Opry while Aunt B hung out with the boys. (Thanks Aunt B!) And who else better to be headlining that night but a family fave, Dolly Parton?!   We had a GREAT time!

I won't tell you how old she is, because you wouldn't believe me.  But I will tell you that the changes she has made over the last year or so have given her back at least 10-12 of her life....and it shows.

We love you, Granny!!
