First grade got a big thumbs up today!!
Caleb had a great first day of school, which definitely makes this Momma happy.
He started a new school this year, which meant that he went in knowing no one. He said he was a little nervous, but was excited to make new friends. Which he will. No worries there. Change is still a bit hard, but he went in like a champ and was ready for a new adventure.
(He was pretty excited at registration about his new school.)
His favorite part about being a new first grader is that he gets to sit in his own DESK. Not a table anymore. That was the highlight of the day for him.
The other things that got him really excited today were the playground, PE, and the jitter juice that Mrs. Franklin, his new teacher, made for the class (a combination of sprite, lime sherbet and raspberry lemonade) to help take away those first day jitters. Caleb says that Mrs. Franklin is fun and nice. We have heard great things about her from a couple of other families we know who had her for a teacher. She has been teaching for thirty years and she says that first grade is her passion. We are really looking forward to working with her this year.
Other than that, I handled the day pretty well, too. I figured out the pick up procedure without too much stress, remembered to comb Caleb's hair, and almost made it through the morning without sobbing. However, once I got on the phone with Aunt B after dropping him off, the water works started. Oh well. I wonder if I will ever not cry on the boys' first day of school. Probably not, but that is okay.
Hooray for First Grade!!!
