Quality Time

Last night, the guys were doing their Guy night thing, watching Wipe Out.  Seth was playing in the floor and Eric grabbed him up to cuddle with him on the couch.  Seth, not having any of it, was wiggling all over the place trying to break free of his Dada's embrace.

Dada:  "Seth sit still, I want to spend some time with you."

Seth: "No, Dada, I want to spend some time with the floor."

Seth made his escape and got back to his quality time with the floor.

Bringing Johanna Home

."Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."  James 1:27

This verse always pierces my heart.  Adoption is such an amazing calling that God places on His children.  Although I do not feel that adoption is God's plan for every family, I do feel that it is God's plan for all of His children to help look after the orphans, either directly or by supporting a family or organization whom God has called to directly care for the orphans.  There are so many opportunities to support adoption or organizations that care for orphans.  Below are two that are close to my heart:

Please go to this link and read about my friend and co-worker, CJ, and her family's journey to bring home their precious daughter, Johanna, from China.  I have known CJ for over five years now and from day one, she has been talking about her daughter, Johanna.  I know God is going to provide the funding to bring her home and they know this, too.  To have a direct calling to adopt takes more than financial means; it also takes much strength, patience, and endurance, so please keep this family is your prayers.  Our God is a faithful God and I know He will continue to provide this for this family.

They are not asking for a big, huge donation, but for lots of different people to give up one endulgence for the day and instead give that money toward their cause.  If you feel led to give, their is a way to donate on her blog.  If you do not want to donate through pay pal, please let me know and you can send the money directly to me and I can give it to the family.

The Raining Season is an awesome ministry, started by a couple from our church, that takes in, provides medical care, food, clothing, and an education for orphans in the Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world.  I have a link to their blog, The Raining Season, on the left sidebar.  The Covering, the name of the home where the children are cared for,  is a light in place where there is so much need and hurt. There are lots of ways to support this mission.  The blog is great, if you want to check it out, and you can link to the main web page to find out more information about this amazing ministry that is doing incredible work for the children in that area and for the Kingdom of God.

Praise Jesus! All the glory is His!

We have been so blessed, and may we always have a heart to bless and care for others!

Are You Ready for Some Football?

I was talking to a Kentucky basketball fan last night at work and he spoke perfectly the sentiments of most true blue UK fans..."You know what is great about the start of football season?  Only twelve more weeks until UK basketball starts!"

Well said.

We second that in the Workman house.

However, for the past couple of seasons, we have actually begun to enjoy watching football, especially the littlest Workman.  All last fall, whenever football was on television, Sethie could be found with a football in hand, squatting down in line formation, and throwing himself on the ground, yelling "touchdown." He would intently sit and watch the game and try his best to imitate the players.  I cringe to say, I think he more intently watched the football games than...gasp...the basketball games last year.

That is why it was such a surprise when Memaw and Pepaw got him his own Titans football uniform for Christmas, complete with helmet, and we rarely found him wearing it.  Especially after Seth spent every Sunday in the fall running into walls at the Powell's house, because the football helmet that he wore the ENTIRE time we were at small group, was a bit too big for that head of his.

But...

On Friday night, Eric had a preseason game on.  Neither of us were really watching it, but within a few minutes of it being on, Sethie was geared up and ready to go!  He made plays, threw passes (and he has quite an arm for such a little guy), and was falling to the ground as he was tackled.

Oh yes, I think the uniform will get much wear this football season!  He has it neatly laid out on the floor beside of his bed in anticipation for the next game.  Tonight while we were reading our bible story, he said, "Mommy, make sure you don't sit on my football uniform."

It should be a fun season!

As we patiently await college basketball season.

By the way, Biz designated himself Sethie's coach.
"That is why I am wearing a hat.  Coaches wear hats."
This perfectly illustrates their relationship.

And the Floors are DONE!

Yay!!

The refrigerator and stove were in the living room for a couple of days and we had to eat out more than we had planned last week, but in the end, it was all worth it!

And whoever thought that fireplace would be anything but an eye sore...

Balloon Art...Evolved

Eric and the boys went to Chik-fil-a while I was working on Tuesday.  They came home with balloon Darth Vader masks.

Wow!  I remember thinking when I was a kid that the balloon dog was a work of genius.  Balloon art sure has come a long way.

"Can You Shoot the Ladders?"

Seth and I were a bit under the weather this morning, so while Dada and Caleb went to church and small group, we spent the morning resting, reading, and playing two of Seth's favorite games, Memory and  "Can you shoot the ladders?"

Sweet Reunion

I am just now getting a chance to post these pictures from Caleb's "homecoming"/Aunt B's birthday celebration in mid-July.

Caleb spent a week (and then some)...eight whole days and eight nights...with Memaw and Pepaw in Kentucky. That was, by far, the longest he had ever been away from home.  He had an absolute blast!!  Memaw and Pepaw kept him busy with lake/pool trips, movies, vacation bible school, helping out around their house and with their dogs, helping out around the funeral home with Pepaw, bike riding, and whatever else came their way that week.  They had such a good time getting some special time with just Biz. We had a fun time, too, having special one on one time with Sethie.  For the first time ever, Seth actually had all of the toys and mommy and daddy to himself.  We all had a nice week, but  by the end,  we were very ready to have our Biz back home with us and have our family back together.

I must say that having him in Kentucky for a week has made the transition to kindergarten a bit easier on me and Seth, since we got a little sneak peek at what it would be like to have our days without Biz.  At least with kindergarten, he is home in the afternoon, unlike when he was away for eight days straight! For that, we are most grateful!

On the day he came home, Aunt B generously offered to meet Memaw and Pepaw near her home so that it would save both of us some drive time and so she could have some time with Caleb, too.  Once she picked him up, they were on the move, visiting her house and the dogs and picking up Uncle Bill, then it was on to Papaw Larry's house and a trip to McDs.  They finally ended up at Granny's house and then they all headed our way so we could meet up in Bowling Green.

What a fun reunion/celebration it was!  I could not wait to see my Biz!  I felt like a kid on Christmas morning.  Aunt B chose Olive Garden for her birthday dinner, so that is where we decided to meet.  When the car pulled up, my heart leapt and I ran over to grab my big boy.  He really seemed to have grown a foot in the week he was gone.  Of course, he had so much to tell me and that little mouth did not stop moving the entire night.  But I didn't care.  I was just so happy to have him back with us and hear all about his adventures.  He really is such a big boy!  And little brother and Dada were very excited, too. Seth stayed pretty much glued to Caleb for the rest of the evening...and actually for the week that followed.  They were very happy to have their buddy back.  And we were all just happy to have an unexpected visit with our family.

For some reason...some crazy, insane reason...we decided to choose this particular evening to do Caleb's back to school shopping.  A Wal-mart trip, where you have a very specific list of school supply items, that requires at least some level of concentration to make sure you get the 1.27 oz. glue stick instead of the 2.1 oz. glue stick and make sure that scissors are size 5 and not size 7, which ofcourse, are all conveniently on the top of the pile and the lone pair of 5 scissors in on the bottom of the pile (Who knew kid scissors had sizes anyway?  I thought they were just kid scissors.), can be pretty nerve wrecking in and of itself.  But combine that trip with two busy, bouncy boys who have not seen one another in a week and are ready to play, play, play, trying to use every school supply placed in the cart as some sort of Star Wars gear/weapon, then you get a recipe for disaster.  We did finally make it out of there alive and with almost all of our supplies.  (We did, however, have to run over to Target to get those glue sticks, because we could not find the specific size on our first try.)

We ended our reunion/celebration with a trip to Bruster's ice cream.  YUM!!  We discovered this little gem of an ice cream shop while on vacation in Destin last summer.  How happy we were to discover there was one somewhat nearby in BG. We just need them to move a little further south.  The boys had plenty of room to move around and since we were outside, I did not mind that they were dancing all over the place and being loud.  They got a lot of excess energy out and we got to enjoy some delicious ice cream with our family.

What a great night!

Time for a Real Hair cut

Sethie and I had a "date" at the hair salon yesterday.  Every so often, he makes a visit to a professional, so he can  recover from the array of homemade haircuts that he usually receives from Mommy.

He was quite a trooper!

Looking good!!

First Day of Kindergarten

How did six years go by so fast?

Happy First Day of Kindergarten, Buddy!!
We love you so much!!
