...And A Couple of Lowlights, Too

With all of the great things that came along with the Christmas season this year, there were also a few things that the Workmans could have done without. However, we were just thankful that this list was much shorter than the previous one.

1. Digital Camera Battery Recharger--Missing in Action

Actually, the boys were probably thankful for this one. We misplaced our beloved camera battery charger a few weeks before Christmas, so this meant that our holiday was devoid of mommy constantly putting on her paparazzi hat and pointing the camera in the boys' direction. Of course, it also meant that we only got a couple of shots of the boys and all of the Christmas hoopla and didn't get any shots with the family. Oh, the precious shots that we didn't get to capture with our camera and were forced to etch into our brains for posterity. We were actually planning to still take some pictures with the small bit of remaining charge that we had on the battery, but in our efforts to conserve, we often had the camera out of sight, which consequently meant it was out of mind, too. Luckily, we did get our video camera repaired a couple of months ago, so we did capture some of the action on film.

Note: We did locate our misplaced battery charger at the McLaughlin's house last night. Yay! Then we turned around and left it at the Davis' New Year's Eve party later...the same night. Although we still don't have it in hand, we do at least know where to find it this time.

2. BAD Weather

As soon as we got onto the interstate to head home to Kentucky on Christmas Eve, the torrential downpour commenced. And the rains came down. And down. And down some more. I actually thought we might never make it out of Tennessee, since we had to drive 40-45 mph for the first hour or so of our journey as sheets of rain made driving a pain. Our five hour drive home turned into a six hour headache. Kudos to my honey for safely navigating us through the monsoon-like weather and getting us home in one piece.

3. Ham!!

Okay, ham in and of itself is not a bad thing. But ham in large, mass quantities, is! This year both of our families decided to break from tradition and do more of a mexican theme for Christmas dinner. I thought that was interesting that they both would have the same idea in the same year, but since Seth will most always eat mexican, I was not complaining. So, when Eric and I decided to treat his office to Christmas breakfast (from Cracker Barrel, of course) as our gift to them on the Tuesday before Christmas, we thought that ham and biscuits would be a safe bet, especially for us since we did not forsee us partaking in much ham over the holidays. Our Christmas Eve breakfast consisted of the remaining ham leftover from his office's breakfast. Two days in and we are still good with the ham. Well, at the last minute both Granny and Memaw changed their Christmas menus to....ham!!! Both of them! What was up with this ham conspiracy? That meant from Tuesday to the following Monday, we consumed an unnerving amount of ham. So, no more ham for awhile...please! Enough!

4. Merry Christmas...from bed

Being sick on Christmas day...No fun! No fun at all. I found myself confined to the bed for the majority of Christmas and sleeping my way through most of the yule tide cheer. Not to mention, in the brief moments that I was actually awake and felt like holding up my head for a minute or two, I was hacking up a lung. It was not pretty. Thankfully, the major gunk only lasted a day, and I was able to commune with the outside world the following day. However, the coughing decided to linger throughout the holiday festivities and peak just in time for bed most nights.
